Career Guidance


The work of the Guidance Counsellor in Limerick Local Employment Service takes place on a one-to-one basis in a private, confidential setting. The Guidance Counsellor meets with adults seeking further education or training or those who wish to gain awareness of what they could do. Career guidance counselling involves assisting adults to review their past and present, state their aims and aspirations, examine their options and make choices based on developing realistic career plans.


It consists of helping each client to:


• assess career to date: education, training, work experience, goals & aspirations
• discuss circumstances affecting career development
• avail of interest assessments & aptitude or personality testing, where necessary
• access information on further education & training courses
• form a plan & make career decisions
• use social/educational/business/community networks to bring about required change
• create or improve  CV
• practice interview & presentation skills
